Simpsons Gap Bicycle Track
J
This commences at Flynn's Grave on the western boundary of Alice Springs
and extends 17 km to Simpsons Gap. The track is sealed and accessible
but creek crossings can be washed out causing unexpected difficulties.
It is suggested the visitors with limited endurance take the short walk
(3 km to the first rest point) for a taste of remote Australia. Only
people who are fit and active will attempt the full distance.
Enjoy the sights and sounds but be aware of heat and your own abilities.
As a precaution to avoid heat distress, do not attempt the path in
mid-summer, wear sensible clothing and a hat and take sufficient water
as there are no water points for the first 15 km. This track is not heavily
trafficked and is at the extremity of mobile phone range so tell someone
where you are going and when to expect you back to enable a response to
emergencies. It is a wise precaution to take a companion in case
of emergency and to share the experience.
