There are daily
direct airline connections from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Darwin, Perth
and Cairns. Many overseas visitors take advantage of arriving in a major
city, experiencing the sights it has to offer then flying direct (maximum
3 hours from any city) to Central Australia for an experience of a remote,
outback area and, of course, Uluru (Ayers Rock) before returning home via
either Cairns and the Barrier Reef or another city, perhaps, on the opposite
side of the continent.
If flying is
not your scene, try one of the Great Rail Journeys on the world famous
Ghan Train. The Ghan has departure points from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
The journey, the train crosses some spectacular countryside from fertile
coastal regions to dry arid desert. J
If you prefer coach
travel, the major coach lines travel to the Centre and have a variety of
packages available - Jetset Travel, Alice Springs or your travel agent.
Long distance coach journeys can present quite some difficulty for people
with mobility impairments as no specific provision is made for this group.
Of course,
time permitting, you can also travel the Stuart Highway by car. There is
so much to see you will need a very flexible itinerary to see it all.
